Jay L Clarke is an contemporary artist based in Leicester, UK. Clarke makes process based sculptural works creating surreal depictions of the human form, influenced by psychoanalysis, and theory of the Formless. Jay L Clarke’s mixed-media practice uses experimental processes on low-tech DIY materials to create visceral depictions of the human form. Method of installation and curatorial decisions are influenced by the philosophy of the gallery space and preconceived ideas of art and exhibitions. The artwork is used as a platform to showcase the artists constant battle between control and chaos, self and environment. Recent work has shown elements of degradation as part of the exhibiting process. This is to create tensions between the artwork and the viewer and the spacial alignment in between.
